Popular Search Engine Tips to Have an Easy Online Shopping Trip

The more you know about how to use search engines the easier your online shopping trip will be.  Many people have difficulty finding the merchandise they want because they don’t understand how search engines work.  Using a search engine is relatively easy if you follow a few simple guidelines.

First, you need to know what keywords are.  Keywords are words that tell the search engine exactly what you are looking for.  For example, if you want to find a rhinestone dog collar to purchase you would enter ‘rhinestone dog collar for sale’ into the search engine term and then press the search or submit button.  If you only enter the phrase ‘dog collar’ you will end up with a listing of every single store that sells a dog collars or articles that mention this phrase.  Always make your search phrase as specific as possible so that you spend less time sifting through sites that don’t have what you want and spend more time actually shopping for your favorite item.

It pays to comparison shop before you buy.  Shopping on the Internet doesn’t mean you have to blow all of your hard earned cash on the first store you browse through.  Comparison-shopping can help you find the items you want at prices you can afford.  Great sites you can visit include BizRate and Consumer Reports.  Both of these sites offer comparisons on the products you are interested in from the cost of the items to the warranties or guarantees offered.  This is one of the best ways to find the items you are interested in.  Some online shopping malls also offer comparison-shopping engines, which can help you identify which merchant has the items you want at the lowest price, including the shipping costs.

Shopping in online malls is also another way to find similar items so that you can comparison shop by yourself without benefit of a comparison search engine.  Remember, not all merchants pay or register their online stores with the comparison search engines so you may be missing out on some great deals if you don’t do a little sleuthing on your own. If you do like the idea of shopping in an online mall simply enter ‘online shopping mall’ in to the search box of your favorite search engine and you should find quite a few listings.  You can narrow your search by entering additional search words such as gifts, women’s clothing, men’s gifts or pets.

Your personal security shouldn’t be ignored when shopping on the Internet.  Before you place an order online be sure to check whether the site is secure.  Many merchants use VeriSign and this logo on a merchant’s site means that they have a secure check out process so that your credit card information is encrypted.  Another way to be sure your shopping transaction is secure is by checking your browser icons at the bottom of your screen.  Secure sites usually have a whole key icon or a padlock icon, which signify that they are secure.  A broken key or open padlock means that you are not on a secure checkout screens.

Not all web browsers are created equal but almost all web browser screens offer a shopping search engine.  Look for icons in your browser window such as small shopping bags, dollar bills, and wallets with cash sticking out or anything that is related to a shopping spree.  Click on these icons and your web browser will automatically take you to search engine listings of places to shop.  All that you have to do is choose the store.  What could be easier for an online shopping spree?

A good article, I always try to intenionally misspell keywords too. I have found it a good tactic to get sales from searches that are narrow by the spelling being wrong.
