Shopping for a Computer Online – Easy Tips to Choosing a Winner PC

For anyone who has spent hours in crowded department stores, looking for help from a salesperson or waiting in line to checkout, Internet shopping can be a great relief. Shopping for a computer can be confusing and difficult, but there are many online sources to help ease the process of PC shopping.

There are many benefits of shopping for a computer online.  First of all the consumer can buy a computer that is customized to meet their specific preferences.  Secondly, buying online offers the speed of around the clock delivery services and the convenience of searching through many different retailers while keeping all of the comforts of home.  Thirdly, many online retailers offer special discounts and prices for purchasing online.  Lastly, the Internet provides a whole host of online retailers through which the consumer can do comparison-shopping and find the best prices and discounts available.

When shopping online for a computer the buyer must first choose the retailer that best fits their buying needs and then pick the right PC for their needs.  Conducting searches through the browser search engines can provide the consumer with valuable information regarding which sites have the most products for the best prices.  Good websites will have a wide variety of computers and specifics to choose from.  It is important to for the retailer websites to be user friendly, to allow customization of the orders and to list the return policies, warranties, delivery information and all prices.  Another sign of an online retailer with the consumer’s best interest in mind is the website that provides customer reviews of their products and services.

Once the retailer has been chosen, the buyer can begin to choose the computer that best fits their specific needs and preferences.  Choosing the right computer means different things to different people. To find the right PC the consumer must first know what they will be using the computer for.  There are eight specifications to look at when choosing the computer to purchase.

Choose the appropriate operating system.  There are many different systems available for purchase once the consumer identifies the main purpose of their particular PC.

CPU Speed – most users do not need exceptional speed unless they will be using their computer for video editing and/or managing digital photographs.

Like speed, it is not necessary to have more than 256 MB or memory unless the user will be doing significant amounts of video and photography editing.

Any computer needs to have a CD drive and/or a DVD drive.  With the technology and applications that are available in the market today it is important to get a PC with a CD-rewritable drive also called a CD-RW.

Because the monitor is the part of the computer that the consumer spends many hours a day looking at, it is important not to hold back on this area.  Flat screen monitors free up desk space and are relatively inexpensive.  The LCD monitor also frees up the desktop space and is great for gamers but can be very expensive without sales or rebates.

For the average consumer the sound card that comes with the computer will be adequate.  The only reason to update the sound card is if the PC will be used for writing and editing music and games.

Memory card slots and video inputs are “extras” that are not so extra anymore.  The average user will want to have both of these if the computer will be used in conjunction with a digital camera or video recorder.

Many computer manufacturers have websites that allow you to customize the PC to fit the consumer needs and then they will provide a final price.  It is important for the computer buyer to take advantage of services such as these.  The consumer must also remember not to buy a computer simply because it is on sale.  Many times these systems will be close out or discontinued products as well as very simple bottom of the line computer systems.  Before making a final decision and purchase it is worth the time and effort to learn computer terminology.  This allows the consumer to ask good questions, understand what they are purchasing and make certain that their new PC has all of the specifications needed and lacks nothing important.
