For anyone who has spent hours in crowded department stores looking for help from a salesperson or waiting in line to checkout, Internet shopping can be a great relief.  With online shopping, you can sit back in your chair in front of your computer with your favorite snack while accomplishing the task of shopping. There are many things that can be purchased online such as computers, vacations, clothing, skin care products, vitamins and dietary supplements.  A new area of online shopping that is becoming increasingly more popular is shoe shopping.  Once a person knows what size of shoe they wear and especially if they have particular brands that they know fit them best it is extremely easy to purchase shoes online.  Many people are even buying shoes for their children online as well.

More and more name brand shoe stores are opening stores online.  Some stores are even going so far as to close down their physical stores because of the overwhelming success of the online ventures.  Zappos, Clarks, Aldo, Naturalizer, New Balance, KEDS and J.Jill are just a few of these merchants. 

There are other entities cropping up that are online stores that are established for the only purpose of selling shoes at a discount.  Shoebuy.com and Savvy Shoes are two large online stores where the shoes are always on sale and there are a wide variety of sizes, styles and brands.  The Shoe Pavilion is the largest online off-price shoe store.  This company offers quality designer and name brand footwear such as Esprit, Puma, Clarks, Dexter, Sketchers, Dr. Marten and Timberland, typically at 30% to 70% below department store regular prices for the same shoes.

The increase in Internet shopping websites has provided for more merchants to specialize in products.  Shoe stores are just one of those products merchants are specializing in.  Online shopping, particularly for clothing, has been booming in recent years.  Shoes are products that everyone needs and more consumers are seeing the importance of shoes that fit well and are of a good quality.  It is no secret that good shoes are costly and are a luxury to most people and not a necessity.  The discount shoe stores are meeting a need by providing these types of shoes at a price that the general public can afford.  By offering these shoes and prices online the merchants are meeting another need of convenience.  By the end of the day when you have worked on your feet, whether your shoes are good or bad, the last thing you want to do is go out shoe shopping.  There is a lot of benefit to being able to relax at your computer and shop for comfortable and good quality shoes.

Another reason why shopping for shoes online is becoming more popular is that shoes are considered more of a necessity and many people settle into a few styles and brands that work for them and they continue to purchase those over and over.  The ability to do this from the comfort of your own home is a big benefit. Many parents do the same thing for their children.  They choose a few styles and brands and are able to measure their child’s feet when they are already out shopping.  There are few things more difficult than shoe shopping with a child so to have the option of doing it from a computer while the children are asleep or otherwise occupied is a perfect option for busy parents.

Holiday shopping is also made easier by use of the Internet.  Shoes can be and are used more for holiday gifts and the lure of the convenience of the Internet as well as the discounts that come with online shopping make purchasing gifts a more pleasant experience.

Consumers today lead much busier lives than in years past. Online shopping allows parents to spend more time with their children and people in general to spend more time on other more important issues than shopping for necessities such as shoes.  It is easy to get discounts and even better prices on name brand shoes by shopping for them online.  This is also important to the working public.  The pros of shopping for shoes online far outweigh the cons; however there will always be room for both in the market.
